But a lot of these older homes still carry cast-iron and galvanized lines, and cast iron catches hair faster than modern pipe. Near the Assabet, the water table runs high, so basement half-baths bring their own complications. We diagnose the full picture before we snake, so we’re fixing the right thing and not just clearing the same clog over and over.

Bathroom Faucet Problems…A dripping bathroom faucet in Maynard is usually a worn cartridge, a failed O-ring, or a valve so old the manufacturer stopped making parts for it. We can swap the cartridge on most Delta, Moen, and Kohler models in under an hour. If the finish is pitted or the valve body is shot, replacement costs less than chasing repairs.

Toilets and Bidets
Toilets… We can handle all of your toilet problems… New installations, replacements, running toilets, toilets that rock on the floor — we do all of it. In the older Maynard homes, the bigger question is the rough-in. Most modern toilets are built for a 12-inch rough-in, but a lot of these older bathrooms were set at 10 inches, and not every new toilet fits. We know which models work with which rough-in, so you don’t buy a toilet that won’t fit the room. If yours runs constantly, we can rebuild the fill valve and flush valve instead. We’ll give you a straight answer either way.
Bidets… We install and replace bidet fixtures and bidet seats. Most Maynard homes that want a bidet go with the seat that mounts right onto your existing toilet — no second fixture, no new rough-in. In a small bathroom, that’s usually the better call than a separate bidet fixture that eats the floor space. We’ll tell you what fits and what doesn’t waste your money.

Tubs And Showers Fixtures and Faucets
Bathtubs… We repair tub valves and trip-lever drains, replace worn valves that leak or won’t hold water, and swap in new alcove tubs and tub-and-shower combos when a tub is too far gone to save. We’ve fit plenty of tubs through doorways that weren’t built for them, and past old-growth framing that fights the drill. Most of the tub work is repair, not replacement — a dripping tub valve or a drain that won’t seal. If the valve body is shot, we’ll tell you straight and replace it.
Showers… We install new shower valves and tub-and-shower valves, and swap out old two- and three-handle faucets for pressure-balanced single-handle valves. The older three-handle rigs send the temperature sideways the second someone flushes a toilet. A pressure-balanced valve holds steady through it. That one change fixes the biggest complaint about the old Maynard bathrooms.

Yes, and we do it often. The key is knowing what’s behind the wall. Old threaded brass supply lines can stay. Galvanized steel usually can’t. We can mate a new sink faucet to old shut-off valves if they’re still sound, or replace the valves without opening the wall. We’ll give you the honest answer for your specific bathroom.
That’s a venting issue, and it’s more common in Maynard’s older homes where plumbing vents were sometimes combined or undersized by modern code. A partially blocked vent stack or a vent that ties in too low causes the toilet to pull air through its trap when the sink drains. We trace the vent line and clear whatever is obstructing it.
We’ve done it. Removing a tub and replacing it with a curbless shower in the same footprint can make the room feel twice as big. If you have an adjacent closet, we can steal square footage for a larger shower. We handle the drain relocation, waterproofing, and valve upgrade. Start with a walkthrough — we’ll tell you what’s possible without moving walls.
They can be. Many older Maynard homes have bathrooms on exterior walls with pipes running through uninsulated bays. When temperatures drop, those pipes are the first to freeze. We can reroute supply lines through interior walls, add pipe insulation, or install heat tape where rerouting isn't possible. Don't wait until February to address it.
In most cases, yes. We’re used to Maynard’s older homes with plaster walls, tight stud bays, and plumbing from several different decades. We can often access what we need through the fixture opening or an access panel rather than opening the wall.
Maynard's water infrastructure is older, and pressure can vary by neighborhood and time of day. Inside the home, old galvanized supply lines narrow over time from internal corrosion. Replacing those with copper or PEX often restores full pressure instantly.
Look for a round-front bowl rather than elongated, which saves about two inches of depth. We can also install a 10-inch rough-in model if your existing toilet is set closer to the wall than the standard 12 inches. We’ll measure and recommend the right fit.

A wobbling toilet usually means the wax ring seal has failed or the flange underneath is broken. Left alone, it can lead to water leaks around the base that damage your subfloor.
