Bathroom problems... In Hudson MA Installations, Replacements, and Repairs
The Bathroom Business...
Richard T. Curley Plumbing and Heating has handled bathroom plumbing in Hudson since 1980. Same-day service for bathroom sinks, faucets, toilets, tubs, showers, and tub-and-shower valves. You get the same plumber every time — the guy who answers the phone is the guy who shows up. We never sell you something you don’t need.
This is home. I live in Hudson, on the Assabet. The town was built on shoes — the boot and shoe companies put up worker housing fast in the late 1800s, and then the rubber company followed. Most of those homes had no indoor plumbing when they went up, so it was squeezed in later, through closets and pantries and outside walls. Walk through an old Hudson house today and you’ll find a patchwork of lead, galvanized, cast iron, copper, and PEX all stitched together. I know exactly what’s behind these walls, because I’ve been opening them for decades.

Bathroom Sinks and Drains...
Bathroom Sinks… We fix what you have first, and replace it when that’s the right call. We install pedestal sinks, wall-hung sinks, and vanities of every size. A lot of the old Hudson homes have one bathroom, awkwardly placed at the end of a long second-floor hallway or tucked near the kitchen. So the footprint matters, and a compact or wall-hung sink is often the right fit. And Hudson’s water runs hard, so I’ll steer you toward a finish that doesn’t show the scale and staining.
Bathroom Drain Problems… Hudson bathroom drains clog from hair and soap buildup — that’s true everywhere. But the downtown homes sit on aging cast-iron drain stacks that rust from the inside, catch hair, and crack in the freeze-thaw cycle. I clear the full pipe, not just the trap, and I’ll tell you straight if the problem is the line to the street rather than the fixture.

Bathroom Faucets...
Bathroom Faucet Problems… A dripping bathroom faucet in Hudson is usually a worn cartridge, a failed O-ring, or a cartridge crusted with mineral scale. Hudson’s water is hard enough that the scale builds up in showerheads, water heaters, and the older galvanized supply lines. I can swap the cartridge on most Delta, Moen, and Kohler models in under an hour. If the finish is pitted or the valve body is shot, replacement costs less than chasing repairs.

Toilets and Bidets
Toilets…
We can handle all of your toilet problems… New installations, replacements, running toilets, toilets that rock on the floor — we do all of it. The big thing in the old Hudson homes is the rough-in. Most modern toilets are built for a 12-inch rough-in, but a lot of the older bathrooms were set narrower, and not every new toilet fits. I know which models work around it. If yours runs constantly, I can rebuild the fill valve and flush valve instead. Straight answer either way.
Bidets… Bidets… We install and replace bidet fixtures and bidet seats. Most Hudson homes that want a bidet go with the seat that mounts right onto your existing toilet — no second fixture, no new rough-in. In a house with one bathroom, that’s usually the better call than sacrificing floor space to a separate bidet fixture.

Tubs And Showers
Fixtures and Faucets
Bathtubs… We repair tub valves and trip-lever drains, replace worn valves that leak or won’t hold water, and swap in new alcove tubs and tub-and-shower combos when a tub is too far gone to save. In the old Hudson homes, I’ve run plenty of drain lines through thick timber framing and tight attics where there’s no drop ceiling to hide a pipe. Most of the tub work is repair, not replacement — a dripping tub valve or a drain that won’t seal. If the valve body is shot, I’ll tell you straight and replace it.
Showers… We install new shower valves and tub-and-shower valves, and swap out old two- and three-handle faucets for pressure-balanced single-handle valves. The older rigs send the temperature sideways the second someone flushes a toilet. A pressure-balanced valve holds steady through it. That one change fixes the biggest complaint about the old Hudson bathrooms — and with all the downtown flips, plenty of those old bathrooms are getting full spa remodels now. Curbless showers, freestanding tubs, wall-hung toilets inside a 130-year-old shell. I do that work too, and I’ll tell you what the old framing will and won’t let you do before you spend a dime.
The cellar bathroom… A lot of the older Hudson Victorians and colonials have a small bathroom in the cellar — a toilet and sink, tight, no frills. The catch is the drain. If your main sewer line runs above the cellar floor, the waste has to be pumped UP to reach it, which means a sewage ejector pump. When those fail, you find out fast. If your cellar toilet won’t flush or the pump runs and the waste doesn’t go anywhere, call us. We replace ejector pumps and repair the ones that can be saved.

A wobbling toilet usually means the wax ring seal has failed or the flange underneath is broken. Left alone, it can lead to water leaks around the base that damage your subfloor. A small wobble right now can turn into an expensive repair later. We can reseat the toilet and replace the wax ring in under an hour.
